Confident readers start with a patient teacher.

One-on-one reading tutoring from a credentialed teacher. We build the skills a child is missing, then give them books worth reading.

Who this is for

Reading problems look different from one child to the next. Tutoring starts with finding out where your child actually is.

Struggling readers

Children who read slowly, guess at words, or avoid reading aloud. We rebuild the foundation without shame and at the child's pace.

Reluctant readers

Kids who can read but won't. Short, focused sessions with real books help them find out reading can be worth their time.

Ready for more

Strong readers who want deeper comprehension, richer vocabulary, and practice talking and writing about what they read.

How it works

A simple process, with parents kept in the loop at every stage.

  1. Intro conversation

We talk about your child, what you are seeing at home, and what you want to change.

  2. Skills check

A short, low-pressure reading assessment shows exactly what is working and what is not.

  3. Regular sessions

Focused one-on-one lessons with a clear plan, tailored to your child.

  4. Progress updates

You hear what we worked on and what to practice, so growth continues between sessions.

What we work on

Every plan is built from the skills your child needs most.

  • Decoding and fluency. Accurate, smooth reading, aloud and silently.
  • Vocabulary. Word meaning, word parts, and learning words from context.
  • Comprehension. Understanding, remembering, and thinking about what is read.
  • Great books. Time with strong literature, not only worksheets and excerpts.
  • Discussion and narration. Putting what was read into the child's own words.
  • Writing about reading. Clear sentences and paragraphs grounded in the text.

About your tutor

I'm Andrew Wilson, a credentialed teacher in history and English language arts with more than five years in the classroom. I tutor because I have watched what happens when a child finally gets traction with reading: everything else in school gets easier.

My teaching draws on classical and Charlotte Mason traditions. That means short, focused lessons, real books, careful attention to the child in front of me, and high expectations delivered with patience.

Every family gets honest feedback about where their child stands and a clear plan for what comes next.

Let's talk about your reader.

Send a short note about your child and what you would like help with. I will reply to set up an intro conversation and share rates and availability.

Arizona ESA families are welcome. Ask about in-person and online options.
